His words: “Our attention has been drawn to a malicious, false and mischievous statement circulating the online media that I, Pius Oiwoh, has endorsed the candidate of APC, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu in the forthcoming governorship election in Edo state.

“Let it be known and clear that neither the branch nor myself as chairman ever endorsed any candidate in the forthcoming governorship election, as both candidates of the major political parties visited the Bar House to interact with the judiciary to tell the judiciary and the NBA on what they will do when given the opportunity to serve for the next four years.”

He added that as chairman of the Benin branch of the NBA, he is prevented by law from endorsing a particular candidate as the Bar is apolitical and non-partisan.

“Let it be known that the Benin Bar would not, has not, and will not endorse any candidate. This is the position of the bar,” he stressed.

Oiwoh further enjoined both candidates and their supporters to act within the law before, during and after the election.

Meanwhile, the Lead Pastor at Hill City, Reverend Olu Martins has maintained that he remains an unrepentant supporter of Governor Godwin Obaseki.

Martins who is also the executive director, Canvassers for Democracy and Rule of Law, was reacting to rumours that he has jumped ship to support Pastor Ize-Iyamu.

Speaking at a press conference in Benin city on Wednesday, August 26, Martins said he needed to denounce the rumour making the rounds before it wears the toga of truth.

Legit.ng had earlier reported that over 400 religious leaders in Edo state have endorsed Governor Obaseki and his deputy, Comrade Philip Shaibu, for a second term.

The religious leaders who are mostly pastors in Assemblies of God Church said the governor’s re-election will enable his administration to consolidate on the successes recorded in the first term.

In a related development, Governor Obaseki has declared that with the support of Edo people and endorsements by over 100 groups in the state, he is certain of victory in Saturday’s gubernatorial election.

The governor urged eligible voters in the state to come out en masse to vote for the PDP to enable him to consolidate on the achievements and put an end to godfatherism in the state.
