A report by The Guardian indicates that the governor of Edo state, Godwin Obaseki said the 14 House of Assembly members-elect were deceived by Adams Oshiomhole, the former national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to Obaseki, the 12 assembly members-elect, who refused to show up for inauguration, and two others betrayed the confidence their constituents had in them after the house was proclaimed in their selfish pursuits and obedience to their godfather.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship flagbearer who revealed this during his campaign rally in Adolor Ward 4, Ovia North-East Council also said that the action denied the lawmakers’ constituents representation in the House.
Obaseki went on to note that the godfather deceived the 14 lawmakers and now they don’t have jobs.
“The godfather is very deceptive; he deceived 14 members of the Edo State House of Assembly and today they don’t have jobs.
“They pretended that they wanted to set up two universities and took all the money to build one and, in three years, nothing was done here,” he said.
Back in January, 14 members-elect of the state House of Assembly accused Governor Obaseki of planning to kill the former national chairman of the APC.
Their allegation was a reaction to a statement credited to the governor that he would deal with his predecessor and former, Oshiomhole.
While addressing a news conference Thursday, January 30, in Abuja, the lawmakers urged President Muhammadu Buhari, party leaders and the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Muhammed Adamu, to call the governor to order, saying should anything untoward happen to any party chieftain or faithful in the state, the people would never forgive their inaction.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that seventeen lawmakers said to oppose the reelection of Governor Obaseki insists on holding sittings at the House of Assembly complex.
It would be recalled that the lawmakers, on Thursday, August 6, impeached the speaker of the House, Francis Okiye, and his deputy, Roland Asoro.
The said impeachment took place at a private location in Benin City hours after security officials took over the state assembly complex.
Before the impeachment occurred, the 14 lawmakers-elect whose seats were previously declared vacant were first sworn in.
