The legal battle over the Kogi governorship election will be resolved on Monday, August 31, according to the Supreme Court of Nigeria.

The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Musa Wada and his party are challenging the re-election of the governor, Yahaya Bello of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the November 16, 2019 governorship election.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday, August 25, fixed the date for judgment after parties in the appeal adopted their various written briefs, The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported.

The judgment will be delivered by a seven-man panel of justices of the apex court led by the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Tanko Muhammad.

Legit.ng recalls that both the Kogi governorship election petition tribunal and the Court of Appeal in their respective judgments affirmed Bello’s re-election on the grounds that Wada and his party failed to prove the allegations of electoral malpractices in their petition.

In another report, the chairman of Edo PDP campaign council, Chief Dan Orbih has urged voters to reject the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its gubernatorial candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu in the forthcoming gubernatorial election.

According to Chief Orbih, the APC candidate is unfit to hold the position of governor in the state.

Orbih made the call while addressing a crowd of PDP supporters in Ugbegun, Ward 10, in Esan West local government area of the state, during the reelection campaign rally of Governor Godwin Obaseki.

Meanwhile, the governorship ambition of the APC guber candidate, Osagie Ize-Iyamu has received a major boost as the Coalition of Christian leaders have endorsed his first term in office.

According to The Nation, the church leaders cutting across all denominations announced the endorsement of the APC candidate at its one-day conference in Benin city.

The church leaders urged Christians no matter their denominations, to vote for Ize-Iyamu and his running mate, Mallam Gani Audu.
