Harry Maguire’s trial could be delayed after an outbreak of Covid-19 on the Greek island where it is due to be held, as a decision on whether the case will proceed is expected later in the day.
It is understood that two people working in the City Hall, where the court is based, tested positive for the deadly disease.
Safety measures are now being taken with those who had close contacts with the two infected persons are being followed up.
Maguire was arrested in a drunken brawl on the sun-kissed isle of Mykonos while on holiday in the Greek island with a couple of friends.
The 27-year-old has denied allegations including assault, disobedience and attempted bribery in connection with the row in which a police officer was allegedly assaulted.
The Man United captain was detained for two nights and was questioned by a prosecutor before flying back to England on a private plane.
Maguire’s girlfriend Fern Hawkins, brother Joe and other friends was arrested shortly after Friday midnight.
If found guilty, the former Leicester City center-back could face a fine of up to £90,000 and it is understood he would pay a daily sum to avoid going to jail.
