PDP alleges plan by APC to cause mayhem, intimidate voters

The Edo state Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) campaign council has raised the alarm over alleged plans by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to intimidate electorates and cause mayhem ahead of the Edo governorship election.

According to the PDP, two branded buses have already been deployed from Kogi state to execute the plan.

Spokesman of the PDP, Chris Osa Nehikhare, said intelligence gathered revealed that the thugs were loaded with arms and ammunition.

He called on the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), the Nigerian Army and the Department of State Services (DSS) to track the movement of the buses and ensure that anyone found culpable is brought to book and made to face the consequences of their actions.

Kogi guber: Huge number of APC aspirants is due to my efforts, says Gov Bello had earlier reported that the PDP recently urged eligible voters and party members in Edo state to be vigilant and ensure that their votes count in the September 19 governorship election in the state.

Chairman of Edo PDP campaign council, Chief Dan Orbih, gave the charge in Ward 11, Evbhohi, Esan North-East local government area, during the reelection campaign of Governor Godwin Obaseki in the area.

Orbih vowed that they will not only mobilise party members and supporters to vote but will ensure that their votes count.

Meanwhile, Edo state First Lady, Mrs Betsy Obaseki, has urged residents of the state to be ready to exercise their franchise and not be intimidated by those who are boasting that they will use federal might to impose an unpopular candidate on them.

Mrs Obaseki gave the assurance in Benin city, the state capital, when leaders of tricycle drivers and motorcycle riders in the three senatorial districts of the state paid her a courtesy call at the Edo state government house.

“Nobody can impose somebody on you. Let nobody intimidate you with federal might. We have a law-abiding, peace-loving president who will not allow anarchy. He loves his country, Nigeria, more than anything and he wants progress for his country,” she said.
