The Department of State Services (DSS) has invited ten top All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders in Edo state for an important meeting ahead of the September 19 governorship election.
According to The Cable, the agenda of the meeting which is scheduled for Saturday, August 22, by 11 am at the DSS Command Headquarters in Benin City, the state capital was not disclosed.
the DSS did not disclose the agenda of the meeting, it is suspected to be in connection to the forthcoming governorship election in Edo.
This was disclosed in a letter with reference number 171/B/122 addressed to Tony Adun (also known as Kabaka) and dated Thursday, August 20.
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that anyone caught buying votes during the Edo and Ondo governorship elections will be arrested and prosecuted, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has warned.
The electoral commission gave the warning on Thursday, August 20, at a one-day sensitisation forum for journalists in Benin.
Festus Okoye, the INEC national commissioner, Information and Voter Education Committee (IVEC) disclosed that there would be security personnel at each voting centre to ensure strict implementation of the directive.
The commission said that earlier in July 2020, it released a provisional list of from 17 political parties before which four of them made some substitutions.
In a related development, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and All Progressives Congress (APC) have engaged in a verbal war following the alleged plot by INEC to postpone the governorship election in Edo state.
The election has been slated for September 19, while political parties are already neck-deep in campaigns. The PDP national chairman, Prince Uche Secondus, alleged at a press conference on Wednesday, August 20, in Abuja, that APC leaders were arm-twisting INEC to shift the election date.
