Prince Uche Secondus, the national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to call his chief of staff, Prof Ibrahim Gambari and the ex-national chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole, to order over their alleged plan to rig Edo election.
Nigerian Tribune reports that he said that unless the president acts quickly, the recent meeting between Oshiomhole and Gambari has the capacity to truncate democracy in the country.
Legit.ng gathered that a video of the two men in the presidential Villa, Abuja where Oshiomhole was alleged to have been heard talking about “arrests,” alarmed the main opposition party.
In a press conference at the national secretariat of the PDP in Abuja on Thursday, August 20, Secondus said that APC has a plan to clamp down on PDP stakeholders in Edo state.
He said: “PDP has watched with utmost concern the developing situation in Edo state. We have watched the growing desperation of the APC and the presidency to capture Edo state in the September 19, gubernatorial election at all cost.
“We are deeply saddened that under the watch of an elected president who is a huge beneficiary of democracy, the nation’s highest seat of power is being used for the hatching of plans to undermine democracy.
“The PDP is, therefore, calling on the National Assembly to call for the tape of the video and examine thoroughly its content with a view to acting appropriately.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that following the alleged plot by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to postpone the governorship election in Edo state, the PDP and the APC engaged in verbal war.
It was reported that the election was slated for September 19, while political parties are already neck-deep in campaigns.
Secondus alleged at a press conference on Wednesday, August 20, in Abuja, that APC leaders were arm-twisting INEC to shift the election date.
